Help us raise $2,000 to support post-flooding relief efforts in El Salvador. What started as a heavy rain alert earlier this week has turned into a national emergency due to prolonged flooding and landslides across the country. Our partners from Asociación Mangle have sprung into action, conducting emergency evacuations in the hardest hit areas and reporting conditions and advisories on their community radio station.
They mobilized their network of Community Civil Protection Committees to rescue families from dangerous flood zones, open emergency shelters, provide food and clothing for evacuees, and monitor the situation on the ground. While our partners have informed us that the flooding has subsided and no lives were lost in their department, 26 evacuated community members from Salinas de Potrero remain housed in an emergency shelter in San Hilario.
Your donation of any amount will go directly to our partners in El Salvador to help purchase much needed supplies for the shelter such as non-perishable food, bottled water, hygiene kits, clean clothes, blankets, and anti-fungal medications. Thank you for your support.
EcoViva supports community-led social justice movements in Central America implementing innovative solutions to poverty, environmental degradation, and climate change. We envision healthy ecosystems and thriving communities that offer a model for living well and in harmony with the earth. Read more about our partner’s response to flooding here.
