Art enriches our lives, whether we experience it in a museum or in our streets, parks, and schools. We tell stories, express our values and dreams, and inspire and empower through art.
That’s why EcoViva and our partners in El Salvador are excited to work with award-winning Bay Area artist Lauren Elder to spark a collaborative public art process in the Lower Lempa this April. Our partners at the Mangrove Association have invited Lauren to engage community members to, together, create three murals in three rural communities around the Bay of Jiquilisco. Cristian Muñoz, a muralist with Los Pobres Artistas and Precita Eyes will be joining Lauren mid-month to co-launch the painting process along with two local painters.
To make this collaboration possible, we’re inviting you and other Bay Area supporters to come meet the artists, learn more about our work, and help us raise some money so that our partners can host the artist and purchase mural-making materials.
Lauren will talk about her past experiences with communities both locally and abroad collectively imagining and creating beautiful works of public art. We will also show Avi Lewis’s short film “Keepers of the Future,” a 24-minute documentary about our partners’ incredible journey fighting for their livelihoods and their environment; the film won an Honorable Mention at the 2018 Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
Join us at our workspace Wednesday, March 28, from 6:30-8:30 pm for an evening of art and friends. There will be appetizers and drinks. We hope you’ll join us to help spread the beauty and power of art!
