MCC Postpones Signing Compact Until 2014
On December 3rd, the Millennium Challenge Corporation confirmed that it would hold off signing the $277 million compact with El Salvador until after the Salvadoran presidential elections in February. Among the reasons include specific reforms to the Public Private Partnership law, passed unanimously this year, and El Salvador’s money laundering law. According to the Salvadoran head of negotiations, the Technical Secretary, the MCC postponed the signing to give the National Assembly enough time to approve the specific changes.
